Whether using the Oak Barres personally or professionally, barres are an investment. Alvas manufactures high quality barres that will last for decades, not just seasons. An investment in the quality keeps dancing safe and profitable.

Oak Barres are made of beautiful Red Oak wood with a medium shade. It is a solid hardwood that has a smooth feel with a pronounced grain. Since they are made of natural wood, grain and coloration may vary. All Oak Standard Barres are hand-sanded smooth and ready to use. They will all come beveled on both ends, so no sharp edges.

Wood barres are the preferred and standard traditional choice in the professional ballet industry. Unlike metal or plastic barres, the natural product will absorb sweat (won’t get slippery) and provide slight flexibility. This slight flexibility in wood barres provide anti-stress on joints, especially on the ballet barre method training. In ballet, barres are typically used for balance only so dancers learn to hold their own weight.

Is the dancer new to ballet and not sure which barre length to get? 4’ barres are commonly used for beginning children while 6’ barres are commonly used for beginning teens or adults. 8’ barres are the most popular and give more room for stretching. 8’ to 16’ barres give ample space for multiple people to use at the same time. If shipping costs are a concern, you may consider several 4’ – 8’ barres or a combination thereof.

The holes in Alvas Standard Barres are always separated by multiples of 16” to allow the mounting of every bracket directly into a wall stud- most wood wall studs are 16” apart. (If you are unsure of your stud spacing, we recommend using an electronic wood wall stud finder or consulting a contractor). Holes are pre-drilled into the barres so that Alvas Fixed Brackets and Extensions (on Wall Mounted Adjustable Brackets, Free Standing Frames and Floor Mount Frames) are ready for installation and actually screw into the rear side of the barre. This allows your hand or foot to slide across the barre without hitting the brackets. The diameter is approximately 1-7/8”, +/- 1/8”.

All of Alvas Oak Barres are grown within the United States and meet or exceed FSC standards. Additionally, American hardwoods are known as the natural choice for environmentally conscious builders, architects and designers looking to specify green materials.

Cleaning the Oak Barres are simple and easy. See FAQ for instructions.
Pricing shown is for Oak Barres only and does not include shipping.
(For use with Wall Mount Brackets, Free Standing Frames or Floor Mount Frames– Each sold separately)
